Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on green firecrackers, saying it respects the sentiments of the people of Delhi. It is very important to strike a balance between traditions and environment, the Delhi Chief Minister told ANI.
I thank the Supreme Court for this order. This decision respects the sentiments of the people of Delhi. I assure you that the people of Delhi and the government will keep the environment safe while celebrating this festival. I thank the Supreme Court wholeheartedly.”
She went to Lakhisarai to support Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha in filing his nomination for the upcoming Bihar elections. The Supreme Court on Wednesday relaxed the earlier complete ban on firecrackers in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) and allowed the sale and use of green firecrackers with certain conditions. A bench of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandra asked Sale of green crackers allowed till October.
It has been ordered that the timing of burning green crackers will be limited to 6 am to 7 am and 8 pm to 10 pm on the day of Diwali and before Diwali. The Supreme Court clarified that this relaxation is only on a trial basis and will be applicable only for the specified period.
