There is a relief news for the people struggling with crawling traffic and long jams on the roads of Delhi. Now a ‘hi-tech’ solution is ready to be implemented to overcome the traffic problem of the country’s capital. Delhi is expected to get the gift of not one, but three ‘double decker corridors’ this year. This project will not only add a new and modern chapter to the infrastructure of Delhi, but will also make the everyday commute of the common people much easier.
‘Three-layer’ traffic system will be seen on only one pillar, metro will be on the top and vehicles will run below it.
For the first time, such an excellent and unique example of engineering will be seen in Delhi. These corridors have been designed in such a way that traffic will operate on three different levels on the same pillar. Its structure will be such that metro trains will run at the highest point, vehicles like cars and bikes will run on the flyover built just below it, and buses and other local traffic will run on the existing road at the bottom. The biggest advantage of this ‘double decker’ system will be that there will be less pillars encircling the road, which will remove the problem of traffic jam and the transportation facility will improve manifold.
Travel between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar will be easy, ramp construction work has gained momentum after cutting of trees.
These three corridors, part of Phase-4 of Delhi Metro, are being built rapidly, but among them, Bhajanpura to Yamuna Vihar corridor (1.4 km) can be dedicated to the public first. Its metro viaduct is completely ready. Due to delay in getting permission to cut trees, the construction of its ramp was halted for some time, but now this hurdle has been removed and the work has started. Officials hope that this 6-lane flyover will be opened for general vehicular movement in the next few months, which will significantly reduce the traffic pressure in this part of East Delhi.
There will be a big relief from the jam on Mehrauli-Badarpur road, 85 percent pillars of Ambedkar Nagar corridor from Sangam Vihar are ready.
The second major corridor for commuters in South Delhi is being built on the Golden Line (2.4 km) between Sangam Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar. Construction work is going on very fast in this part and about 85 percent of the pillar work has been completed. There is a strong possibility that it will be completely ready by the end of this year. The biggest impact of the opening of this corridor will be seen on Mehrauli-Badarpur road, where people will get great relief from the severe traffic jams during peak hours and their precious time will be saved.
The picture will also change between Azadpur and Derawal Nagar, the aim is to open it for vehicles by the end of the year.
The third important corridor is taking shape between Azadpur to Derawal Nagar (880 m), which is an important part of Janakpuri West-RK Ashram corridor of Phase-4. Here too construction agencies are working day and night. According to the latest report, about 70 percent work of its foundation and pillars has been completed. It is being claimed that it will also be opened for vehicles by the end of this year. As soon as these three projects are completed, a new and smooth traffic system will be seen on the roads of Delhi.
