Indian Aviation Regulator (DGCA) has given a big gift to the passengers traveling by air. Often, passengers had to suffer huge losses if their plans were changed after booking tickets in a hurry and the airlines used to deduct a huge amount. But now under the new rules, you will get 48 hours to think and change your plan, which will not cost you any extra money. These new rules will come into effect from March 26, 2026, which will provide great relief to the pockets of Indian travelers traveling within the country and abroad.
Now there will be no charge for canceling or changing tickets
According to the new rules, if you book a ticket through the airline’s official website, you can cancel or change it within 48 hours of booking. For this the airline will not charge you any cancellation fee or penalty. However, to avail this facility, some conditions have also been imposed, which need to be kept in mind.
Domestic Flights: There should be a minimum of 7 days gap between your date of travel and time of booking. International Flights: There should be at least 15 days left before the date of travel. If you make changes in the ticket, you will only have to pay the difference in the fare of the old and new ticket, no separate amendment fee will be charged.
When and how will I get the refund?
DGCA has also cracked down on airlines regarding the refund process. Now passengers will not have to wait long for refund. If you have paid by credit card, the money will be refunded within 7 days of cancellation. In case of cash payment, the money will be refunded immediately at the airline counter. For those booking through agents or portals, the airline will have to complete the process within 14 days.
Additionally, if you are unable to travel for any reason (no-show), the airline will be required to refund all taxes (e.g. UDF, PSF) even if your ticket is in a non-refundable category. Also, if the name is misspelled in the ticket, it can be corrected free of cost within 24 hours of booking.
