New Delhi. The Election Commission is now preparing to launch a special intensive revision campaign of voter lists in West Bengal. On the other hand, state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is against SIR. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has issued show cause notices to 1000 BLOs of Bengal and sought their answers. In fact, all the BLOs to whom notice has been issued do not want to do the work of SIR and have requested to be relieved from this work. The Election Commission has started the appointment process of BLOs a few days ago but many teachers have refused to take the BLO appointment letters.
The Election Commission has given 72 hours to the BLO to respond to the notice. Earlier, Mamata Banerjee had recently said that BLOs should remember that they are basically employees of the West Bengal government. The Chief Minister had also said that she would not tolerate deletion of even a single voter’s name in West Bengal. It is believed that due to this warning from CM, BLOs do not want to do the work of SIR. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has called all the Chief Electoral Officers of the country to its Delhi headquarters where a meeting is to be held across the country regarding SIR.
Let us tell you that assembly elections are to be held in West Bengal next year and in view of the same, the Election Commission wants to start a special intensive revision campaign of the voter list there. It is noteworthy that recently the Election Commission has completed the SIR process in Bihar. However, the opposition parties created a lot of hue and cry regarding this. India Bloc parties under the leadership of Congress demonstrated against the Election Commission from Parliament to the streets, but the Commission released the final voter list after the completion of the SIR work.
