The Election Commission (EC) has taken an important initiative to maintain transparency and remove doubts among voters regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal. A voter helpline 1950 has now been launched by the Commission.
Citizens can now access various state and district level services as well as helplines to ask queries and lodge complaints related to the voter list, an official said.
“SIR is a regular project under the monitoring of the Commission. A similar process has been adopted in other states including Bihar and no valid voter’s name will be excluded from the list,” he said.
To provide additional clarity and ensure voter confidence, the Election Commission has activated several support channels.
“The National Contact Center now functions as a central helpline for all states and union territories, operating from 8 am to 8 pm daily on the toll-free number 1800-11-1950,” he said. He said that trained staff are available to assist citizens in election matters.
Underlining its commitment towards a transparent and inclusive electoral process, the Commission has urged all eligible voters to use the 1950 helpline and other services to obtain information, give feedback or report any grievance.
Additionally, each state and district has been directed to set up its own contact centers to provide prompt and effective assistance in local languages, he said, adding that all queries and complaints are being lodged and tracked through the National Grievance Service portal.
“Citizens can directly contact their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) through the ECINET platform, which facilitates seamless communication with election officials,” he said.
He said the ECINET mobile application enables voters to connect with officials, and the Commission has directed all CEOs, DEOs and EROs to ensure that complaints are resolved within 48 hours.
The Election Commission said that these new services complement the existing grievance redressal mechanism, and voters can also email their concerns at complaints@eci.gov.in.
