Fatal incidents of fire in nightclubs across the world in the last decade

A massive fire broke out late Saturday night at ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ night club in Arpora, North Goa, killing at least 25 people. The incident was reminiscent of the horrific fire that broke out at a nightclub in North Macedonia in March this year, killing 62 people.

Some other such major incidents in the last decade are as follows:

October 2015: 64 people died in a fire at ‘Collektiv Night Club’ in Bucharest, Romania. Fireworks set the club’s flammable polyurethane foam on fire during the band’s performance of ‘Goodbye to Gravity’. The fire spread rapidly.

December 2016: 36 people lost their lives in a ‘Ghost Ship’ warehouse fire in Oakland, California. The worst fire in Oakland history occurred during an electronic music and dance party.

January 2022: 16 people died in a fire in a nightclub in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The fire was caused by firecrackers lit while champagne was being served at the club.

January 2022: 19 people died in a fire at Sorong nightclub in Indonesia’s West Papua province. The club was burnt down due to a clash between two groups inside the building.

August 2022: 23 people burn to death in a fire at ‘Mountain B’ nightclub in Bangkok, Thailand. The fire probably occurred due to a short circuit or some problem in the electrical system.

October 2023: 13 people died in a fire at a nightclub complex in Murcia, Spain. The fire was probably caused by an electrical fault.

April 2024: 29 people died in a fire at the Masquerade nightclub in Istanbul. The fire broke out when the club was closed for renovation work.

March 2025: 62 people died in a fire at a nightclub in North Macedonia. The fire started when sparks from fireworks inside the house hit the roof and ignited it.
