States have to issue notification about new GST slabs separately. The new GST slab across the country will be applicable from 22 September 2025. That date is also the first day of Navratri. The arrival of new slabs of GST will save money in the hands of people after purchasing everyday things and essential items. Which they will be able to use in other work.
The GST Council met in early September. The GST Council unanimously decided that there would now be two main slabs of tax. The first GST had 5 percent, 12 per cent, 18 per cent and 28 per cent of four slabs. Now only 5 and 18 percent of slabs have been kept in GST. Most of the 12 per cent slab things have come into the 5 per cent slab. At the same time, some things of 12 percent GST slab have been put in 18 percent. The GST Council has created a new slab of 40 per cent for luxury and intoxication items. Earlier, 28 per cent GST and cess were used on luxury and intoxication items. Now no cess has been kept in a slab of 40 percent.
PM Narendra Modi, while addressing the country from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15 this year, said that the government is going to give a gift of low GST on Diwali. Although Diwali is in October, the government is going to give the benefit of reducing tax from the GST Council from Navratri itself. The special thing is that GST has been abolished from insurance. Also, GST will not have to be given on packets of milk, curd, cheese. With this, the common man will also be able to get insurance and his plate will also be cheaper. GST has also been reduced from pencil, rubber, notebooks. GST has also been reduced on cement. This will also reduce the pockets of common people in education and building houses.
