The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has informed that since February 28, 2026, more than 2 lakh 20 thousand Indians have returned to their country from the Gulf countries. The work of evacuating Indians stranded in Iran is going on at a fast pace. Many Indians have crossed the border from Iran to Armenia and Azerbaijan by road. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has thanked the Armenian government for this help.

What are the current figures for exit from Iran?
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Indians are continuously leaving Iran through safe routes. For this, road route is being used and the Indian Embassy is providing full assistance in visa and immigration.
Armenia: 550 Indians have entered the border of Armenia by road from Iran.
Azerbaijan: Similarly, 90 Indians have crossed the border of Azerbaijan.
Current Status: Currently, there are around 9,000 Indians in Iran, which include students, sailors, businessmen and pilgrims.
Safety of students: Indian students living in Tehran have been shifted to other safe cities away from the capital as a precautionary measure.
What is the condition of air flights in Gulf countries and other countries?
A total of 45 flights from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar are scheduled to reach India on Monday 16 March. The Ministry of External Affairs has also taken many important steps for Indians living in these countries and a 24-hour helpline has been started in every embassy.
Qatar and Kuwait: Qatar’s airspace has partially opened and three flights are coming to India from there. Kuwait’s airspace is currently closed, but special flights are being arranged from there.
Bahrain and Iraq: Indians present in these countries are being given transit facilities through Saudi Arabia.
Oman Incident: On March 13, two Indians lost their lives in Sohar, Oman. The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that preparations are underway to bring his mortal remains to India and there is no news of any other Indian being injured there.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran is fully functioning. Along with this, a special control room has been created in New Delhi so that people’s families can get all the correct information on time.
