In Bangladesh, the incidents of violence and torture against the minority community i.e. Hindus are not stopping. The latest case has come to light from Kaliganj sub-district of Jhenaidah district, where an incident that puts humanity to shame has taken place. Here the brutes made a 40 year old Hindu widow a victim of their lust. The accused not only gang-raped the woman, but also tied her to a tree and cut her hair. The victim woman showed courage and reached the police station and lodged a named report against the accused Shahin and his brother.
The accused was keeping an evil eye on the woman since she bought the land, and started harassing her after she rejected his obscene proposal.
The victim woman said in her complaint that about two and a half years ago, she had purchased 3 decimal land and a two-storey house from the accused Shahin and his brother in Ward No. 7 of Kaliganj Municipality for 20 lakh taka. After the sale of the land, Shahin’s intentions deteriorated and he started making obscene proposals to the woman. When the woman protested and rejected his advances, the accused started harassing her in different ways. The situation worsened when on the evening of Saturday, January 3, 2026, two relatives from the woman’s village had come to meet her. Meanwhile, taking advantage of the opportunity, Shahin along with his companion Hasan forcefully entered the house and raped the woman.

Crossing the limits of brutality, the accused demanded 50,000 Taka (about Rs 37,000 in Indian currency) from the woman after raping her. When the woman flatly refused to give the money, the accused attacked the relatives present there and drove them away from the house. When the woman started screaming, the criminals dragged her out and tied her to a tree. With the intention of humiliating her, he cut the woman’s hair and made a video of the entire incident and posted it on social media. The accused tortured the widowed woman until she became unconscious. Later, hearing the noise, the local people rescued the woman and admitted her to the hospital for treatment.
Rape confirmed during medical examination in hospital, police assures of strict legal action against the accused
According to hospital superintendent Dr. Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman, initially due to fear and local culture, the woman did not openly tell the doctors about the incident, but later during the medical checkup, rape was confirmed. After the medical report came, the woman lodged a formal complaint against Shahin and Hasan at Kaliganj police station. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, Jhenaidah ASP Bilal Hussain said that the victim has been called to the police station and her complaint has been registered. Police have assured that the matter will be investigated impartially and strictest legal action will be ensured against the culprits.
