India will now buy LPG gas from Russia, a big decision of the government amid tension in Western Asia

India’s energy supply is being affected due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. In view of this, the Indian government has now started turning to other countries for Gurja. MEA has made it clear that if supply is available from Russia, India will definitely buy LPG from there so that the people of the country do not face the need for cooking gas.

Why is India increasing energy sources?

Due to the conflict in West Asia, the supply chain on sea routes has been affected. 22 Indian ships are stranded near the Strait of Hormuz. There are about 3.2 lakh tonnes of LPG in these ships which was to come to India. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that we are trying to buy gas from everywhere.

What has the government done for energy security?

India has now increased the number of countries for purchasing its oil and gas. Earlier India used to import oil from 27 countries, but now this number has increased to 40. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of Petroleum Ministry, said that India is now purchasing LPG from countries like US also.

Along with this, people are also being encouraged to adopt PNG and CNG. In the last three days alone, more than 5,600 customers have opted for piped gas instead of gas cylinders. However, the government says that there is sufficient stock of gas in the country and there is no need for any panic booking.
