There has been a relief news for India on the energy security front. Indian flagged LPG tanker Green Sanvi has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz. This tanker is carrying 46,650 metric tons of gas and 25 crew members. This is the seventh Indian ship to successfully transit this route amid the ongoing tension in West Asia. The government has also officially confirmed it and called it very important for India’s energy needs.

What are the safety and new rules in the Strait of Hormuz?
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) has introduced some new rules and toll system for ships passing through this route. Now ships are being asked to pay fees in Chinese yuan and undergo security checks. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has made it clear that the movement of ships in international waterways should be without any hindrance. India is constantly in talks with Iran and other regional countries on this issue so that maritime trade remains safe and there is no threat to ships.
Latest report on the safety of Indian citizens and ships
Since 28 February 2026, more than 6 lakh Indian citizens have returned safely from the affected areas of West Asia. According to the Shipping Ministry, 17 Indian ships and 460 crew members are currently in the Gulf area and they are completely safe. Recently a ship named Sea Bird has arrived in Mangalore which has brought LPG from Iran. Two more tankers named Green Asha and Jag Vikram are expected to reach India in the coming days. For assistance, the Directorate General of Shipping has set up a 24-hour control room which is monitoring the situation.
