Indian citizens have been given strict warnings by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding the employment journey in Iran. The Ministry of External Affairs said that recently many Indian citizens were called to Iran on false employment promises and there was a ransom by the criminals.
Mea official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that many Indians were promised that they would get employment in a third country after coming to Iran. But when Indian citizens arrived in Iran, they were abducted by criminals and ransom was demanded from the family.
It was clarified on behalf of the Ministry that the government of Iran allows Indian citizens only to have a visa-interest admission for the purpose of tourism, which is not applicable for employment. This visa-interest entry is valid for only 15 days, once every six months. Criminals and miscreants take advantage of this for false proposals of employment.
Mea has urged citizens not to accept the proposals related to employment without fully verifying and do not trust any mediator or agent. Since August 2025, Indians going for employment in Iran have been made mandatory to take immigration clearance to protect them from exploitation and crime. The purpose of this warning is to protect Indian citizens from international employment scams and organized crime
