Thirteen people were killed and several others injured in a massive fire that broke out at a fireworks storage facility in Mundathicode area of ​​Thrissur district, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) on Tuesday confirmed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed grief over the loss of lives and property in a massive fire that broke out at a fireworks storage facility in Mundathicode area of ​​Thrissur district.

Expressing his grief, the Prime Minister said that he is deeply saddened to hear about the loss of life and property in the accident at the firecracker factory.

Prime Minister Modi also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

Announcing the ex-gratia amount, the Prime Minister’s Office said, “The Prime Minister has announced that the next of kin of each deceased will be given an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF. The injured will be given Rs 50,000.”

Earlier, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) today confirmed that thirteen people were killed while several others were injured in a massive fire that broke out at a fireworks storage facility in Mundathicode area of ​​Thrissur district.

According to KSDMA, five people are currently in critical condition, two have been admitted to the ward, and 17 others have received minor injuries in the incident.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal expressed deep grief over the tragedy, saying he was “distressed to hear about the magnitude of the destruction” and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.

Venugopal said, “I am shocked to hear the news of the explosion at a fireworks storage facility in Thrissur, which occurred just days before the Pooram festival. I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of at least six people and am shocked to see the horrific scene of devastation. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families in this hour of grief. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I urge the government to respond to rescue operations. Every possible effort should be made and necessary medical assistance should be provided to all the injured as soon as possible.”

Kerala Health Minister Veena George has directed that expert medical care be ensured to those injured in the blast. The Minister directed Thrissur Medical College to make all necessary arrangements for his treatment and ordered to send adequate ambulances including Kanivu 108 unit to the spot.
