Netherlands’ leading airline KLM has issued a major update for passengers traveling to and from Dubai. In view of security reasons and instability in the airspace, the airline has canceled all flights to Dubai till 28 March 2026. This news is very important for Indian expatriates working in Gulf countries and people who travel frequently. This decision has been taken after the recent drone accident near Dubai Airport in which 4 people were injured.
What is the main reason for cancellation of flights?
On March 11, an incident of two drones falling near Dubai International Airport was reported. 4 citizens of India, Bangladesh and Ghana were injured in this accident. Dubai Media Office has confirmed this incident. Since then, airlines have become alert regarding security in the airspace. The Dutch government has also issued ‘Code Orange’ for UAE, which means travel only when absolutely necessary. Apart from KLM, other airlines like British Airways and Air Canada have also canceled their flights.
What will happen to passengers’ tickets and refunds?
Passengers whose flights have been canceled need not worry. KLM has said that passengers can rebook their tickets for free by going to the My Trip section of the website or app. If you do not want to travel, you can also take full refund. The airline has promised to complete the refund process within 7 days. Apart from this, food and hotel arrangements will also be made for the passengers who are stranded midway as per the rules of the airline.
