Major relief for 32,000 primary teachers in West Bengal, jobs to be Reinstated, Calcutta High Court Division Bench overturns single bench decision

New Delhi. Calcutta High Court has given big relief to 32,000 primary teachers of West Bengal. The court has overturned the teacher recruitment decision of 2023 and ordered the reinstatement of the appointments. The Division Bench of Justice Tapobrata Chakraborty and Justice Ritabrata Kumar Mitra of Calcutta High Court has rejected the order of the single bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay in which he had directed to cancel the appointments of teachers. The High Court Division Bench, in its order today, said that termination of employment after 9 years of service will have a deep impact on primary teachers and their families.

This entire matter is related to the appointment of 42,500 primary teachers through Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) in the year 2014. The petitioners had alleged irregularities in the recruitment process, saying that many low-ranked candidates were appointed for money. After this, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had canceled the appointments of 32 thousand teachers citing irregularities in the recruitment process. The West Bengal government had challenged this order of the High Court in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had put a stay on the decision to cancel the jobs of teachers and sent the case again to the High Court.

State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee welcomed the decision of the High Court and said, we respect the decision, I assure the working people that they should not be afraid. I have no conflict with anyone, and the judge is free to give his verdict. But it is not right to jeopardize the future of children by snatching their jobs. While West Bengal Higher Education Minister Bratya Basu tweeted, congratulations to the Primary Education Board after the decision of the Division Bench of the Honorable High Court today. The decision of the single bench of the High Court has been overturned. The jobs of 32,000 primary teachers are completely safe. Congratulations to the teachers also. Truth has won.
