Manipur Police on Thursday said suspected armed Kuki militants opened fire targeting an Indian Army post near Fauljung and Gothol. This incident happened late on Wednesday night.
In fact, in a post shared on, Manipur Police wrote, “On 25 March 2026, at approximately 11:40 pm, suspected armed Kuki militants opened fire in the general area of Fauljang/Gothol, and they fired towards an Indian Army post at Phougakchao Awang Leikai.”
The statement further said that the Indian Army and the 58th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) “quickly returned fire towards the source, resulting in an exchange of fire for about 30 minutes”.
Manipur Police further said, “Since the early morning of 26 March 2026, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army, CRPF, Manipur Police and Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) in the general area and surrounding hilly areas where the firing took place.”
Police said the situation is being closely monitored and security forces will continue operations in the surrounding hilly areas.
“Citizens are requested to avoid spreading rumors and verify information before sharing,” officials said, urging caution.
Earlier, security forces in Manipur arrested an activist of United National Liberation Front (Pambei-led faction) from Patsoi under Patsoi police station and demolished six illegally constructed bunkers in Imphal West district.
According to a press release, a mobile phone was seized from the arrested person during the operation. The overall law and order situation in the state remained normal in the last 24 hours. Security forces are continuing search operations and area control in the border and sensitive areas of the districts.
According to the press note, “Continuing the operation launched yesterday, security forces demolished six (6) illegally constructed bunkers in Litan and Mongkat Chepu upper village areas on Wednesday, March 25.”
After this operation, most of the bunkers in the violence-hit Litan area have become inoperative. Security forces are alert and troops have been deployed strategically to prevent violence from escalating.
