Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha (LOP) Rahul Gandhi on Thursday urged the Mahayuti government to expedite relief efforts in the Marathwada region affected by the flood due to heavy rains.
Gandhi posted on X, “I appeal to the government and administration to expedite relief work and provide full assistance to the farmers after assessing the waste of the crop. I urge Congress leaders and workers to cooperate with the administration and provide all possible help to the needy people.”
The Congress leader expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the devastation caused by heavy rains in the districts of Marathwada region of Maharashtra. Gandhi said, “The news of loss of life and property due to heavy rains in Marathwada, Maharashtra is extremely tragic. My senses are with all the affected families in this difficult time.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Shiv Sena spokesperson Anand Dubey had demanded a special package of Rs 15,000 crore from the center for the farmers of Marathwada. On the flood situation in Marathawada, Dubey told ANI, “Marathwada, Maharashtra, has been receiving heavy rains for the last 4-5 days. So far, eight people have lost their lives. This government has called itself a double engine government and the BJP government has also called the BJP in the center, the BJP has also called the BJP in the center. He was also not given a single rupee help. “
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut criticized the Mahayuti government amidst heavy rains and floods in the Marathwada region, saying that about 40 lakh farmers had suffered losses. Addressing a press conference, Raut said that Raut said that there was heavy loss in 11 districts of Marathwada region, resulting in about seven lakh acres of agricultural land.
Several districts of Maharashtra have been flooded due to continuous heavy rains, due to which National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed in Beed, Dharashiv and Solapur districts.
Flood -like conditions have arisen due to continuous heavy rains in many districts, causing a widespread rescue and relief campaign. NDRF has been actively deployed in Beed, Dharashiv and Solapur districts since Monday night.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited flood affected areas in Solapur, inspected damaged crops and interacted with farmers. He instructed the local authorities to ensure quick relief and assistance to the people affected by heavy rains. According to the government sources, the Maharashtra government has announced a assistance package of Rs 1,339 crore for farmers whose crops were destroyed due to heavy rains between June 2025 and August 2025.
