If you often travel by air, then this news is very important for you. Aviation regulator DGCA has prepared for major changes to crack down on passengers who create ruckus or misbehave in flights. According to the new proposal, now the airlines will not have to wait for any investigation committee, rather they themselves will be able to take immediate action against the accused passenger. Its purpose is to make the journey safe for other passengers and eliminate delays in decision making.
On which mistakes will be banned for 30 days?
DGCA has made it clear that airlines can take direct action on certain types of activities without any inquiry. If a passenger breaks these rules inside the flight, he can be banned for 30 days. This rule will be heavy on those people who often trouble the crew members or co-passengers by drinking alcohol or getting angry in the flight.
Smoking inside the plane. Drinking alcohol on domestic flights or bringing your own alcohol on international flights. Tampering with emergency gates or security devices. Unnecessary use of life jacket. Sloganeering or protesting in an airplane. Violent kicking or vandalism of seats or tray tables.
What has changed in the rules before and now?
According to the rules till now, if a passenger misbehaved, the airline had to first form an ‘Internal Committee’. This committee was headed by a retired judge and a temporary ban was imposed on the passenger till his report came. This took a lot of time. But in the new proposal, airlines are being given the power of ‘direct action’.
However, if a passenger has to be banned for more than 30 days, then under the old rule, the approval of the committee will have to be taken. DGCA has sought public opinion on this proposal till March 16, 2026. Travelers traveling to India from Gulf countries will also have to take special care of these new rules so that their journey can be completed without any hindrance.
