Rajya Sabha MP, writer and social worker Sudha Murthy fell victim to a complex cyber scam. He lodged an FIR against an unknown person earlier this month in a cyber crime police, which tried to get his personal information through phone calls.
According to the FIR, on September 5, he received a suspicious call of a person, who described himself as an employee of the Department of Telecommunications. The phone alleged that his mobile number was not linked to his Aadhaar card and falsely claimed that pornographic videos were being broadcast from his number, and threatened to shut down his mobile services by noon. When the idol refused to obey, the person started talking abundantly and started abusing. Murthy immediately disconnected the call and later lodged a complaint with the Bengaluru Cyber Police on 20 September. Murthy fraudulently demanded legal action against the caller for trying to get their data and using threatening words. Investigation is going on.
