An incident of firing on the Sarpanch of Aam Aadmi Party in broad daylight has come to light in Amritsar. According to DCP Jagjit Singh Walia, the sarpanch was shot dead by unidentified assailants during a wedding ceremony at the Marigold Resort located on Verka Bypass. The deceased has been identified as Jarnail Singh, resident of Valtoha village in Tarn Taran district. He was associated with Aam Aadmi Party and was currently working on the post of Sarpanch.
Speaking to ANI, he said, “This evening, we received information that there was a firing incident at Marigold Resort on Amritsar Bypass. All our senior officers and teams immediately reached the spot… Someone shot a person named Jarnail Singh. Our team is fully engaged in the investigation of this incident. The culprits will be arrested soon. The deceased is dead. We are using both human intelligence and technical surveillance…”
According to the DCP, Jarnail Singh had come to Amritsar to attend a wedding ceremony. During the ceremony, two unidentified youths opened fire on him. The attackers fired two bullets into Jarnail Singh’s head, killing him on the spot. As soon as information about the incident was received, police officers reached the spot and started investigation.
The footage from CCTV cameras of the resort is being examined to identify the culprits. Speaking to the media at the spot, DCP Jagjit Singh Walia said that the police had received information about firing inside the resort. On reaching the spot, it was found that Sarpanch Jarnail Singh of Valtoha village had been hit by two bullets and he died on the spot. He said that the matter is being investigated and the accused will be arrested soon.
The DCP also said that Tarn Taran police may have information regarding whether the deceased had ever received any threat or ransom calls in the past. At present, Amritsar Police has not received any concrete information in this regard.
