The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Tuesday recovered the car of a 27-year-old technician who died from a water-logged pit at a construction site in Greater Noida’s Sector 150. Meanwhile, Noida Police arrested Abhay Singh, CEO of real estate firm MZ Wisetown Planners, in connection with the death of a 27-year-old technician who died after his car fell into a water-logged drain in Sector 150.

Following the arrest, the CEO of MZ Visiontown Planners was produced before the court, which remanded him to one-day judicial custody. The police will produce the builder again in the court tomorrow. The arrest comes after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the case. SIT chief Bhanu Bhaskar, who visited the incident site with the team, said they will submit their investigation report within five days.

Bhaskar said, “SIT has been formed to investigate this matter. We have spoken to the officials and the family members of the deceased. The investigation has just begun. We will submit the report after 5 days of investigation.” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Mahesh Sharma expressed condolences to the victim and said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has assured him that anyone found guilty of this negligence will be identified and punished.

“This is a tragic incident and also a matter of concern. There has been a mistake, negligence on someone’s part. The Chief Minister has taken immediate cognizance of the matter. We met the Chief Minister today and yesterday also. He has assured us that anyone found guilty of this negligence will be punished and identified. A special investigation committee has been constituted,” Sharma told reporters here.

He further said “The CEO of Noida has been transferred. The engineer and the junior engineer have been suspended, and after the investigation, within just five days, based on the facts that have emerged, even bigger action will be taken. A young man died. I am also saddened. The entire society, the entire government, our entire party, we are all with the family in this hour of grief. But our leader, our Chief Minister has taken immediate action”.

Yuvraj Mehta, 27, lost his life when his car broke the boundary of a drain and fell into the water near the Sector-150 intersection under the jurisdiction of Knowledge Park police station in Greater Noida on the night of January 16-17. Following the incident, the victim’s family alleged gross administrative negligence and claimed that timely intervention could have saved his life as he struggled for two hours.

Speaking to ANI, Rajkumar Mehta, the victim’s father, said, “My son was struggling to save his life. He was screaming for help, pleading with people, but most of the people were just watching. Some people were making videos. My son struggled for two hours to save his life. The officers and staff present there could not save him. They did not have any divers. There is negligence on the part of the administration in this whole matter.”
