Now passengers have got a big relief from expensive food and drinks at Indian airports. The government has started ‘Udaan Yatri Cafe’, where essential items like tea and water are available at very low prices. This change has come after Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha raised the issue of expensive food in Parliament. Now passengers will not have to empty their pockets at the airport and will be able to get breakfast at normal city prices.
What are the new rates for food and drinks at the airport?
Now the prices of things at the airport have been fixed through Udan Yatri Café so that even the common man can buy them easily. According to the new list, passengers will now get goods at these prices:
Tea: 10 rupees
Water Bottle: 10 rupees
Coffee: 20 rupees
Samosa: 20 rupees
Sweet of the day: 20 rupees
Local Dish (like Vada Pav): 20 rupees
This menu has been specially designed for those passengers who do not want to spend the expensive airport restaurants.
In which cities was this facility started?
This scheme was started as a pilot project from Kolkata Airport in December 2024. Now it is being implemented in other parts of the country also. At present this facility has been started at these airports:
Kolkata Chennai Pune Ahmedabad Bhubaneswar Itanagar Vijayawada
The government aims to soon launch it at all Airports Authority of India (AAI) airports including Delhi and Mumbai. According to the rules, permission has been given to open one such outlet at every airport.
The effect of the question raised in Parliament was visible
MP Raghav Chadha had raised this issue in the winter session of Parliament that charging Rs 100 for a water bottle and Rs 250 for tea at the airport is wrong for the common citizen. In response to this, the Civil Aviation Ministry has taken this step. This cafe at Pune airport is completely run by women. Recently, a video has also surfaced on social media in which people are seen enjoying samosa worth Rs 20 and tea worth Rs 10 at the airport.
