Patna Airport Update: Direct flights will start from Patna to Dubai and Bangkok, runway extension gets green signal

There is good news for those traveling from Bihar to Gulf countries and other international routes. Now preparations have been completed to start direct flights from Patna Airport to Dubai, Bangkok and Kathmandu. Former Union Minister and MP Ravi Shankar Prasad has informed that the government is serious about starting air services on these routes and the necessary infrastructure is being improved for this. This will benefit the most those people who frequently travel to Dubai or other Gulf countries for jobs and have to travel through other cities.

What are the new rules for runway expansion and international flights?

The runway length of Patna Airport will now be increased from 2,072 meters to 3,657.6 meters so that operation of large aircraft can be safe. Bihar government has also made a policy to provide financial assistance and rebate to encourage airlines companies. Under this, small aircraft like ATR-72 will be allowed for Kathmandu, while for long routes like Dubai and Bangkok, aircraft with at least 150 seats will be required. This financial assistance will be given initially for six months which can later be extended depending on the performance. About 15 acres of land of Patna Zoo will be taken for runway expansion.

When will migrants and travelers get this benefit?

The bidding process for aviation companies has started and applications can be made till 15 April 2026. If the process is completed on time, direct services to Dubai and other countries can start from this summer season itself.
