Rajasthan: Congress leader Rameshwar Lal Doody dies, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed grief

Rameshwar Doody, a Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, died on Saturday in Bikaner at the age of 62 after prolonged illness.Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has expressed grief over his death.

Doody was in coma for more than two years after ‘Brain Stroke’ in August 2023. His last rites will be performed in Bikaner on Saturday.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma wrote on X, “The news of the death of former Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly Shri Rameshwar Doody is extremely tragic. God should place the departed soul in his supreme abode and give the mournful families the power to bear this thunderstorm.”

Doody, known as farmer leader, was the Leader of Opposition between 2013 and 2018 during the BJP government in Rajasthan. He was also an MP from Bikaner. His wife Sushila Doody is currently a Congress MLA.

Many Congress leaders including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Congress state president Govind Dotasara and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Julie mourned his death.

Gehlot said, ‘It was very sad to hear the news of the death of former Leader of Opposition and Rameshwar Doody, who was an MP from Bikaner. This is a trauma for me personally. ” He said that Doody discharged every role and he always worked for the farmers.
