The doctors arrested in connection with the ‘white collar terror module’ had raised more than Rs 26 lakh to purchase the material used in the blast near the Red Fort. An official gave this information on Thursday. He said that four suspects – Dr Muzammil Ganai, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather, Dr Shaheen Saeed and Dr Umar Nabi had together deposited the cash, which was handed over to Dr Umar for safekeeping and operational use.
Dr Omar, a resident of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir and assistant professor at Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana, was driving the Hyundai i20 car used in the blast that took place in the busy area of the Red Fort on Monday evening. Investigators believe the money was for a larger terrorist conspiracy.
With this deposited amount, he allegedly purchased around 26 quintals of NPK fertilizer worth around Rs 3 lakh from Gurugram, Nuh and nearby towns. Officials said this fertilizer mixed with other chemicals is commonly used to make Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Police sources said that the purchase of such a large quantity of fertilizer by the group has become an important clue in the investigation.
He said that financial transactions and supply records are being examined. Sources also said that in the days before the blast, there were differences between Omar and Muzammil over money transactions. Investigators are probing whether the dispute affected the group’s plans or the timing of the attack.
