A historic and major step has been taken in diplomatic relations between India and Saudi Arabia. The two countries have officially signed an agreement under which holders of specific passports will no longer require visas for short-stay visits.
The agreement took place at the headquarters of the Saudi Foreign Ministry in Riyadh, symbolizing the growing closeness and mutual trust between the two countries.
What is this new agreement?
According to this new agreement, citizens of India and Saudi Arabia holding diplomatic, special and official passports will now be able to travel to each other’s country without a visa.

Who will get the benefit?
This relaxation is not currently available for general tourists or business travelers. Only these will get its benefit:
Diplomatic Passports: Which are with diplomats and senior officials.
Special Passports: Often issued to high-level government officials.
Official Passports: Which is given to civil servants (officers) traveling for government work.
Now these categories of officials will not have to apply for visas in advance, which will make travel for government work and bilateral meetings faster and easier.
Relationships will become stronger
Experts believe that this step is not limited to just facilitating travel, but it reflects the growing strategic and economic relations between India and Saudi Arabia. This will make it easier to hold high-level meetings and work on government projects between the two countries.

Even though common citizens have not yet got visa exemption, experts are considering it as a positive sign for the future. Relaxation of visa rules at the diplomatic level often opens the way for easier visa policies in the future for students, professionals and tourists as well.
