The bone-chilling cold continues in most parts of the country. The direct effect of snowfall in the hilly areas is being seen in the plains, where the temperature is continuously falling. The ongoing cold wave along with falling mercury and blanket of dense fog has badly affected normal life. People’s problems have increased due to low visibility in the morning and night.
Warning of severe cold wave and sharp drop in temperature in the plains of North India between 8 to 16 January.
Looking at the current weather patterns, there is no hope of getting relief from the cold at present. Weather experts predict that a severe cold wave is going to start soon in the plains of Northern India. This cold will be as severe as was felt during December and January in the last few years. The normal day temperature may fall by 4 to 8 degrees Celsius between January 8 and 16 in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.
Triple blow of melting, cold wave and fog in Uttar Pradesh, Suryadev not seen till afternoon in Lucknow-Kanpur
Life is disrupted in entire Uttar Pradesh including the capital Lucknow due to the triple blow of melting, cold wave and fog. Air quality has also reached dangerous levels in many areas. At present there is no possibility of relief from the melting cold and cold wave. Due to fog and mist in Lucknow and Kanpur, the sun is not visible till noon. The maximum temperature in these cities has come down to around 13 degrees Celsius, while the night temperature has fallen to 7-8 degrees. Same is the condition of Prayagraj, Agra and Aligarh.
Icy winds will blow in Delhi-NCR for the next three days, moderate fog will increase the problems of drivers.
Residents of Delhi-NCR will now have to bear the brunt of the cold winds. Strong cold winds are expected for the next three days, which will further increase the chill. There will be moderate fog in the morning, which can cause trouble for drivers. There is a possibility of further drop in temperature in some areas, due to which the severity of winter will become more severe.
‘Cold Day’ conditions in many districts of Bihar till January 10, mercury dropped to 4.6 degrees in Sabour, Bhagalpur.
It is extremely cold in most of the districts of Bihar. In districts like Patna, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur and Gaya, ‘cold day’ situation may persist till January 10. The effect of cold wave has increased due to rapid fall in temperature in many districts. The minimum temperature has reached around 5 degrees Celsius in many districts including Bhagalpur, Gaya, Nalanda and Siwan. Sabour area of Bhagalpur was the coldest in the last 24 hours, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.6 degrees Celsius.
Torture of winter in Jharkhand and Rajasthan too, temperature reached 2.2 degrees in Gumla and minus 8.6 degrees in Gulmarg.
Cold continues to wreak havoc in Rajasthan too. The temperature has reached around 5 degrees Celsius in many districts including Jaipur. At the same time, cold wave alert has been issued in 10 districts of Jharkhand after the temperature dropped below 10 degrees. Gumla recorded the state’s lowest temperature of 2.2 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, cold has broken all records in Jammu and Kashmir also. The mercury in Gulmarg dropped to minus 8.6 degrees, which was the coldest night of this season. Srinagar also recorded a temperature of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius.
