New Delhi. The Supreme Court has refused to initiate contempt proceedings against accused lawyer Rakesh Kishore in the case of throwing a shoe at CJI BR Gavai. Supreme Court Bar Association President Vikas Singh had filed an application for contempt proceedings against lawyer Rakesh Kishore. Attorney General R. Venkataramani had given approval to initiate contempt proceedings against the accused lawyer. Justice Surya Kant and Justice Jaimalya Bagchi in the Supreme Court refused to take any action in the shoe scandal case during the hearing on Monday.
Earlier, current CJI BR Gavai had refused to register a case against lawyer Rakesh Kishore. During the hearing, the bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Bagchi said that raising slogans or throwing shoes in the court is contempt. Also, the Supreme Court bench said that it is up to the concerned judge whether to take action against that person or not. The bench said that issuing contempt notice to lawyer Rakesh Kishore would glorify him. Which would be unnecessary. Therefore the matter should be allowed to end on its own. Vikas Singh, who filed the petition, told the court that the accused lawyer had explained his actions in an interview given to the media. Besides, there is also glorification in the matter.

During the hearing, Justice Surya Kant said that the court will consider making guidelines in such a case. Advocate Rakesh Kishore had tried to throw a shoe at the CJI on October 6. The lawyer had also raised the slogan that Hindustan will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan. The lawyer later told the media that the CJI had made unnecessary remarks about Lord Vishnu. Due to which he was not able to sleep at night. Even before the lawyer tried to throw the shoe, CJI BR Gavai had already clarified that he respects all religions. His intention was not to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments.
