Katihar. Tejashwi Yadav, the CM face of the Grand Alliance in the Bihar Assembly elections and younger son of RJD supremo Lalu Yadav, addressed a public meeting in Katihar on Sunday. While giving a speech at a public meeting in Katihar, Tejashwi Yadav announced that if the grand alliance government is formed in the state, he will throw the Waqf Amendment Act in the dustbin. That means, if Tejashwi Yadav becomes the CM of Bihar, he will not implement the Waqf Amendment Act in the state. Before Tejashwi, his party RJD’s MLC Qari Shoaib had also said in a public meeting that if the Grand Alliance government is formed, the Waqf Act will be thrown in the dustbin.

The opposition had raised hue and cry against the Waqf Amendment Act. Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD had also raised its voice against the Waqf Amendment Act. Tejashwi Yadav had earlier also opposed the Waqf Amendment Act. Now in the Bihar Assembly elections, Tejashwi Yadav and RJD MLC Qari Shoaib have tried to completely attract the Muslim voters of Bihar to their side by announcing that they will throw the Waqf Act in the dustbin. However, non-implementation of the Waqf Amendment Act is not easy. The reason for this is that this is a central law and every state has to follow its provisions.

Petitions were also filed in the Supreme Court against the Waqf Amendment Act. All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and Muslim organizations had challenged the Waqf Amendment Act in the court. After hearing this, the Supreme Court banned some provisions in the interim decision, but clearly refused to completely ban the Waqf Amendment Act, saying that the law passed by the Parliament cannot be completely canceled. The Supreme Court will give a more detailed decision on the Waqf Amendment Act later. At present, the law is in force and Tejashwi Yadav may make promises, but even if he becomes the CM of Bihar, he will not be able to refuse to implement the court-approved provisions of the Waqf Amendment Act.
