At least 16 people were killed and eight others injured when a gravel-laden truck and a public transport bus collided head-on in Telangana’s Rangareddy district on Monday. Police gave this information.
The truck collided with a Telangana Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus near Chevella, following which gravel fell on the bus.
Police officials said that relief and rescue operations were started immediately after the accident. The local administration and the rescue team made joint efforts to rescue the passengers trapped in the bus. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals, where they are undergoing treatment. The process of identifying the deceased is ongoing and their families are being informed.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck was over-speeding and lost control on the road, which led to the accident. Police have registered the case and further investigation is underway.
