Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday insisted that the Babri Masjid will never be rebuilt and warned “those who are dreaming of it” to follow the law of the country.

Addressing a gathering in Barabanki, Chief Minister Yogi said, “To those who are dreaming of a structure like Babri Masjid, I want to say that doomsday will never come. Don’t live for doomsday. Learn to live according to the rules of India. Follow the law of the country. Otherwise, if someone breaks the rules, his path will lead straight to hell. If someone is dreaming of going to heaven by breaking the law, his dream will never come true.”

Taking a dig at opportunists, Yogi said, “Some opportunists remember Lord Ram in times of crisis and later forget him. Therefore, Lord Ram has also forgotten him. Now they will not succeed. Now they will never be able to move ahead.” Referring to the incident of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav ordering firing on kar sevaks in Ayodhya in 1990, Yogi said, “There is no place for these ‘Ramdrohi’ now; There is no place for those who open bullets.” On 6 December 1992, the Babri Masjid was demolished by a large group of ‘kar sevaks’ in Ayodhya, and the symbolic foundation stone of the Ram temple was laid. The incident followed riots in various parts of the country and more than 1,000 people were killed.

Kalyan Singh was the Chief Minister at the time of demolition of Babri Masjid. He resigned from the post of Chief Minister just hours after the demolition. After this, the Congress led central government dismissed the Uttar Pradesh government on the same day. Singh later faced legal proceedings and was even sent to jail for a day in connection with the incident. The Ayodhya Ram temple was inaugurated in January 2024.
