Ayodhya Today Ram Navami is being celebrated with great pomp all over India. But a different scene is being seen in Ayodhya, where the roads and streets are decorated with flowers. The entire Ayodhya city is resonating with the proclamation of Ram’s name. Ram Navami is being built for the first time after the construction of Ramlala’s temple after a long wait of 500 years. In such a situation, people’s enthusiasm is visible. But all the people of India are waiting for only one thing, that is Lord Ram’s Surya Tilak. Actually, such a special technique has been prepared that Surya Tilak will be applied on the forehead of Lord Ram, for which everyone is eagerly waiting.
Know what is technology
On Wednesday, the day of Ramnavmi, at noon, the sun’s rays will fall on Ramlala’s head and his ‘Surya Tilak’ will be possible through an elaborate system involving mirrors and lenses. Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-CBRI Roorkee scientist Dr SK Panigrahi told PTI that ‘the basic objective of the Surya Tilak project is to apply a tilak on the head of the idol of Shri Ram on the day of Ram Navami. Under the project, sunlight will be brought on the head of Lord Ram at noon on the day of Sri Ram Navami.
He told that ‘Under the Surya Tilak Project, every year in the month of Chaitra, Tilak will be done on the forehead of Lord Ram with sunlight from 12 noon on Shri Ram Navami and every year the position of the Sun in the sky changes on this day.’
How will Surya Tilak be done?
The team at CSIR Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, in consultation with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore, has developed a mechanism to transmit sunlight from the third floor of the temple to the sanctum sanctorum. The detailed overall design for bringing sunlight into the sanctum sanctorum has been developed by CBRI, with IIA providing its consultancy for the optical design. Before implementing the opto-mechanical system in Ram Mandir for Surya Tilak, a small model suitable for Roorkee area has been successfully validated. A full-scale model has been successfully validated at the Optica site in Bengaluru in March 2024.
Meanwhile, explaining about the opto-mechanical system for Surya Tilak, Panigrahi said, ‘The opto-mechanical system consists of four mirrors and four lenses which fit inside the tilting mechanism and piping system.’ He said, ‘The entire cover is placed on the top floor with apertures for tilting mechanism to direct the sun rays towards the sanctum through mirrors and lenses. The last lens and mirror focus the sun’s rays on the forehead of Shri Ram facing east.’
He said that ‘The tilt mechanism is used to first adjust the inclination of the mirror to send the sun rays towards the north direction for making Surya Tilak on Shri Ram Navami every year.’ According to Panigrahi, ‘All the piping and other parts are manufactured using brass material. The mirrors and lenses that are used are of very high quality and are durable to last.’
