The Madras-based branch of the Indian Institute of Technology / IIT has recently decided to include a new course in its curriculum. Giving information about this today, IIT Madras has said that it will soon start a masters program on electric vehicles. The popularity and demand for electric vehicles in India has grown rapidly over the past year. Due to this, IIT Madras has announced the introduction of Interdisciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) for Electric Vehicles, which will increase the knowledge and interest of the students in the field of Electric Mobility.
From when will the enrollment be able to be filled?
Giving information about the enrollment of Masters Program on Electric Vehicles, IIT Madras said that from the session of January 2022, students will get an opportunity to enroll in this Masters program.
Who is this program for?
This program will be for such students who wish to pursue B.Tech or dual degree course. In such a situation, from January 2022, the interested students can enroll for the Masters program on Electric Vehicles under the third year and dual degree course of B.Tech.

How can it be started?
According to a report, initially 25 students are expected to take admission in the Masters program on Electric Vehicles being launched by IIT Madras. Although this number may be higher.

Talking about this, T Ashokan, Head of Engineering Design Department at IIT Madras said, “The content related to this Masters program being launched on Electric Vehicles will be presented in such a way that the students in all the domain areas related to it are given proper and accurate knowledge. Adequate information can be made available. This will cover all the important aspects from electric vehicle fundamentals to batteries and motors as well as other important aspects. The Engineering Design Department will conduct the program and it will be taken to other departments as a joint effort “
Talking about this, Karthik Athamanathan, Practice Professor, IIT Madras said, “The present times are interesting and wonderful opportunities for electric mobility due to the increasing demand and popularity. We are at the tipping point. Therefore, it is important that electric vehicles should have excellent skills for engineering and all the important aspects of electric mobility. For this, IIT Madras is starting and programs for electric vehicles and electric mobility will be introduced with industry linkage.
CS Ram, Department of Engineering Design at IIT Madras said, “Students will be given complete engineering education in Electric Vehicles in the course of Masters Program on Electric Vehicles. After that they will be able to develop their desire and interest in Electric Vehicles segment. There will be an opportunity to choose the sector of interest. Students will also be given the facility to do master projects in this sector.
