While talking on the issue of Galvan, he said many things. During the Galvan conflict in June 2020, the Chinese forces suffered a major setback for the first time. The casualties of Chinese soldiers were the first time China was encroaching on its neighbors’ territory in the last two decades. During this, the former army chief recalled the statement given by former Defense Minister George Fernandes that China remains the number one threat to India even today. He further said that people have become more knowledgeable and aware on this matter than ever before.
Along with this, General Naravane also said in his statement that China is engaged in border encroachment not only with India but also with Bhutan and Nepal. He stressed that the number of casualties is not significant, so we would not like to get into the numbers game. What is important is that China suffered casualties. China is also encroaching on the South China Sea. China has not been challenged by any other country before, so they never faced any loss. He said that India challenged China for the first time and they got a shock. He said that the most important thing in this conflict is that India forced China to re-evaluate their approach.
