The central government approved a fund of Rs 13,020 crore for the maintenance of borders in the Border Infrastructure and Management (BIM) scheme till 2025-26. This decision will help in strengthening the infrastructure for border management, increase policing and surveillance.
A statement issued by the government said, under the leadership of Home Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs is committed to improve the infrastructure and management on the borders. Under the BIM scheme, the borders of Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar will be helped in fencing, floodlighting, technical solutions and construction of border roads and checkpoints.
India shares a border of 3323 km with Pakistan, 4096 km with Bangladesh, 3488 km with China, 1751 km with Nepal, 699 km with Bhutan and 1643 km with Myanmar.
