A total of 4244 complaints of corruption were received online, offline and by e-mail in the financial year 2021-22. Similarly, a total of 2355 complaints were received in 2020-21.
There have been more complaints of corruption in this financial year than last time. The anti-corruption body Lokpal has received 80 percent more complaints in this financial year as compared to 2020-21. 4244 complaints of corruption have been received by the Lokpal. This figure is from April 2021 to January 31, 2022. Which is eighty percent more than 2020-21. At the same time, 1427 complaints were received in the financial year 2019-20.
The Lokpal, while replying to an RTI, said that a total of 4244 complaints were received in the financial year 2021-22, both online and offline and by e-mail. Similarly, a total of 2355 complaints were received in 2020-21. In March 2020, the government had issued a form for filing complaints against public servants or politicians with the Lokpal.
To make a complaint to the Ombudsman, all the complainants have to give an affidavit on a non-judicial stamp paper, on which the complaints have to be mentioned among other things. Also, if a wrong or harassing complaint is made against a public servant, then the complainant can be punished with imprisonment up to one year and fine up to one lakh rupees. A complaint against a public servant must contain the details of the allegations of commission of an offence.
Significantly, the online system for filing complaints of corruption with the Lokpal was inaugurated in December last year. On March 23, 2019, President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office to Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh as the chairman of the Lokpal to probe allegations of corruption against the Prime Minister and other public functionaries.
