Today is a very special day in Indian history. Today is a historic day for the Indian Army. Today 16th December is celebrated as Vijay Diwas across the country. India won the war against Pakistan on this day in 1971 and Bangladesh was established after that. The Golden Victory Torch is lit on 16th of December to mark the formation of Bangladesh. Indian soldiers made huge sacrifices in the 1971 war. About 3900 Indian soldiers were killed and 9851 were injured in this war. However, by the end of this war, the self-respect of Pakistan was shattered and shattered.
At the end of this war 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered. This was the largest surrender by soldiers of one side in any battle in the world. In this war, East Pakistan became independent from Pakistan and came into existence as an independent country under the name of Bangladesh.
Lt Gen AAK Niazi, the commander of the Pakistani Army in East Pakistan, surrendered to Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Arora, the Commander of the Army of East India. On the evening of 16 December, General Niazi signed the surrender papers. With this, India won this war. Since then, Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 16 December in India.
