New Delhi. Good news is expected for OBC OBC soon. According to the Hindi newspaper ‘Dainik Jagran’, the Modi government is going to increase the scope of creamy layer for this class. At present the creamy layer for OBC is 8 lakhs. There is a preparation to increase it to 10 lakhs. There is a provision in the law to increase the creamy layer every three years. Last time it was increased from 6 lakhs to 8 lakhs in the year 2017. There is a provision of 27 percent reservation for OBC under the law, but according to the news of Dainik Jagran, this category is not getting full reservation in 11 states including Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
OBCs are being given the lowest 12 percent reservation in Punjab. At the same time, OBCs are getting more than 27 percent reservation in Bihar, Andhra, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Whereas, in 10 states including UP, Assam, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Odisha and Haryana, the governments there are giving them complete reservation. According to the news, the work of sub-categorization of OBC is also almost complete. The commission constituted in this matter is going to give its report soon. It is being told that a committee has also been formed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to suggest changes in the creamy layer.
The Supreme Court has earlier said that the basis for deciding the creamy layer cannot be just economic. The court had said that social and other aspects should also be seen for this. The tenure of the Sub-Classification Commission of OBC is till July 31. In such a situation, by this time the government can also take a decision on the creamy layer. At present, the states have the right to give reservation to OBCs. At the same time, the central government implements this reservation in its departments.
