British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will visit India on 21-22 April at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is his first visit to India as Prime Minister. Although he is coming at the invitation of the Prime Minister, yet this visit is being considered very important in view of the changing geopolitics in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Confirming his visit, Foreign Ministry sources said Prime Minister Johnson would be accorded a grand welcome at the ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. According to sources, on April 22, he will hold a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss bilateral relations, cooperation and global issues of common importance. Apart from the official meetings, he will also visit Gujarat on April 21. The relations between India and Britain are very old.
The trip was canceled due to Corona
Johnson was invited as the chief guest at the 2021 Republic Day celebrations, but then had to cancel his trip due to the increasing cases of Corona in Britain. Since then his visit to India was considered possible. At this time his visit is being considered very important due to the Russo-Ukraine War.
India stands by its stand on Russia
Europe and America are repeatedly pressuring Russia not to buy oil and not to trade in any other currency as an alternative to the dollar. Recently, the UK Foreign Minister also visited India, but India had made it clear that it would take decisions keeping in mind the interests of its country. Recently Johnson also visited Ukraine.
Boris Johnson banned from entering Russia
Russia retaliated by banning several British officials, including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, from entering Russia amid sanctions being imposed on Russia by Western countries amid the Ukraine war. Russia may announce more names soon. This action of Russia is being seen as an act of revenge on the western countries. In addition to Johnson, Russia has banned UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, Defense Secretary Ben Wallace and 10 other senior politicians. Russia said the move was in response to sanctions imposed by Britain after the attack on Ukraine.
