Patna. Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) President Rakesh Tiwari believes that acquiring the rights of Moin-ul-Haq Stadium on long-term lease from the state government can prove to be a turning point for Bihar cricket. BCA has acquired the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium on a long-term lease from the Government of Bihar. The stadium currently serves as the home ground for the Bihar cricket team and has been the venue of nine international matches since its inception in 1969.
The BCA chief mentioned the challenges faced by Bihar cricket after the bifurcation of the state in 2000. Rakesh said, ‘This is like a dream come true for us. After the bifurcation of Bihar state in 2000, the main infrastructure passed to the Jharkhand Cricket Association. We had only Moin-ul-Haq Stadium and that too was under the Bihar government.

He said, ‘It was governed by the state of Bihar itself, we never got it on lease and we were completely dependent on the permission of the Bihar government to use it.’ Tiwari further said, ‘Initially, Moin-ul-Haq Stadium was built for football. But when we started our proceedings in 2010, it took 8 years and it was decided that Moin-ul-Haq Stadium will be given to Bihar Cricket for operation.
He said, ‘Before 2018, the stadium could also be used by schools for their annual functions etc., but after 2018 it was given to us to conduct cricket activities on priority basis. We used to pay around Rs 50 thousand as rent for this. Despite the challenges, the BCA President and his team remained steadfast in their goal. With plans to improve the infrastructure and facilities, the stadium is set to have world-class facilities. Taking Moin-ul-Haq Stadium on long-term lease from Bihar government can be a turning point for Bihar cricket.
