Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, the Civil Aviation Ministry has asked all airlines to conduct risk assessment at their level regarding the operation of international flights. Air India, Vistara, Indigo and various international airlines have chosen alternative flight routes to western countries. In view of the increasing tension between Iran and Israel, airlines are not operating their flights through Iranian airspace.
Speaking to news agency PTI, Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Wualnam said all airlines have been asked to conduct their own risk assessment regarding their flight operations. He said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is cooperating and negotiating with all the airlines. He is also in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs. The Secretary gave this information on the question of whether the Ministry or DGCA has given any advice to all the airlines amid the increasing crisis in West Asia.
Iran attacked Israel
Recently, Iran fired dozens of drones and missiles at Israel in retaliation. After this Israel had said that it would respond to this attack by Iran. Due to this there is tension in the area.
Airlines changed route
Air India is operating some of its international flights on alternative flight routes to India. Vistara has also changed the routes of some of its flights due to the West Asia crisis. Air India has temporarily suspended its flights to Tel Aviv. Supriyo Banerjee, vice president and head of corporate ratings at rating agency ICRA, said on the West Asia crisis that commercial airlines may have to take longer routes to comply with ‘no-fly’ rules, which will increase fuel costs. Banerjee said that if the problem persists, it will also impact international air travel in adjacent geographical areas. Geopolitical developments will also put pressure on crude oil prices and aviation fuel (ATF) prices.
