New Delhi. Many cases are heard in the Supreme Court every day. During the hearing of some cases, interesting incidents happen, which completely changes the atmosphere of the court. Recently, several notices were issued to the Congress by the Income Tax Department. During the Lok Sabha elections, a notice was issued by the Income Tax Department regarding payment of the outstanding amount of tax. The amount of outstanding tax is so high that even the total assets of the Congress Party are not that much. In such a situation, Congress reached the Supreme Court, so that the implementation of the notice could be stayed till the elections. During this, Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta appeared on behalf of the Income Tax Department, while senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared on behalf of Congress to present his side. The case was heard in the court of Justice BV Nagaratna.
The hearing of the case started and arguments started being presented from both the sides. Meanwhile, SG Tushar Mehta told the court that no action will be taken against the Congress party until the Lok Sabha elections are over. This means that the Income Tax Department will not take any coercive action to recover the outstanding tax. This attitude of the Income Tax Department was shocking. On this, Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that he is speechless due to the attitude of the Income Tax Department. Addressing the bench of Justice Biwi Nagaratna, Abhishek Manu Singhvi also expressed surprise at the attitude of the Income Tax Department. He said in a light tone, ‘I have become speechless…this happens to me very rarely.’

Justice Nagarathna’s answer
Abhishek Manu Singhvi also showed shocking behavior on the stand of SG Tushar Mehta. On this, the bench of Justice Nagarathna, which was hearing the case, said that you (Congress) should not always think negatively about anyone. Justice Nagaratna said this with a smile. On the notice issued by the Income Tax Department, Abhishek Manu Singhvi had earlier said that Congress is a political party, not a profit making organization.
What is the matter?
Income Tax Department gave a new notice to Congress. In this, a tax demand of Rs 1745 crore has been made for 2014 to 2017.
