The global temperature is increasing continuously. Recently, a report said that the month of February 2022 was the seventh warmest February month in history. This information was given in a report released by the National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Its temperature was recorded 0.81 °C above the average temperature of the 20th century. Looking at the first two months of 2022, their average temperature makes them the sixth warmest ever. Not only this, according to the released report of NCEI, there is a 99 percent chance that 2022 could be among the 10 warmest years in history.
On the other hand, if we look at the average temperature of January 2022, it was 0.89 degrees Celsius higher than the average temperature of the 20th century, which means that this month was the sixth warmest January month in history. Similarly, if we look at the 10 warmest February months in history, eight of them have occurred in the last decade itself. Earlier, in February 2020, the temperature was 1.16 degree Celsius higher, whereas in February 2017, it was 1.02, 0.87 in February 2015, 0.87 in February 1998 and 0.85 degree above normal in February 2019.
According to the report, except North America, the temperature in other continents was above average. While February was the seventh warmest in Europe this year, many European countries experienced one of their 10 warmest February months this year.
Similarly, February temperatures were warmer than normal in North and West Asia, while the temperatures in Central and South regions were below normal. It can be said that this time the temperature of February in Asia was so high which makes it the eighth warmest month of February in history.
On the other hand, if we look at Africa, the temperature in February was somewhere near normal, while in most parts of South America, the February temperature was much above average. There this time the month of February was the eighth warmest February in history combined with February 2006. However, North America was the only continent where February temperatures this year were below average. If we talk about the major temperature discrepancies recorded in this month by country, the month of February this year in Spain was the third driest month after 1961.
On the contrary, heavy rains were recorded in Puerto Rico, which created a flood situation there. Similarly, in Petropolis of Brazil, there was flood due to heavy rains. In Queensland, Australia, there was a flood situation at the end of the month due to heavy rains.
