Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the inaugural session of the joint conference of Chief Ministers of States and Chief Justices of High Courts at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. Chief Justice of Supreme Court NV Ramana also participated in this. During this, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court said that we should take care of the ‘Lakshman Rekha’, if it is according to the law, then the judiciary will never come in the way of governance.
CJI NV Ramana said that if the municipalities, gram panchayats perform their duties, if the police investigate properly and the illegal custodial torture ends, then people will not need to approach the courts.
CJI NV Ramana said that the decisions of the court are not implemented by the government for years. Despite judicial pronouncements there is deliberate inaction which is not good for the country. “Though policy making is not our jurisdiction, but if a citizen comes to us with his complaint, the court cannot refuse,” he said.
At the same time, in the joint conference, PM Modi said that this joint conference of Chief Ministers of States and Chief Justices of High Courts is a living depiction of our constitutional beauty. In our country, while on the one hand the role of the Judiciary is that of the guardian of the Constitution, the Legislature represents the aspirations of the citizens.
Local languages should be promoted- PM Modi
PM Modi said that when the country will complete 100 years of its independence in 2047, then what kind of justice system would we like to see in the country? How do we make our judicial system so capable that it can fulfill the aspirations of India of 2047, it can live up to them, this question should be our priority today. He also said that local languages should be promoted in the courts.
PM Modi further said that today’s conference is being held at a time when the country is celebrating the nectar festival of independence. These 75 years of independence have continuously clarified the role and responsibilities of both the Judiciary and the Executive. Wherever necessary, this relationship has continuously evolved to give direction to the country.
