The count down has started for the Uddhav government in Maharashtra. BJP leader and former Chief Minister of the state Devendra Fadnavis started playing his cards from Tuesday morning after seeing the numbers of the rebels. Late in the evening he met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. He asked them to conduct a floor test. According to the news of NEWS 24, the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs sitting in Assam have been asked to return to Mumbai so that they can take part in the float test. The rebels have also started preparing to return after packing their belongings.
Devendra Fadnavis was active since Tuesday morning. First of all he went to Delhi and met Amit Shah and JP Nadda. In the evening, he returned to Mumbai and went straight to the Raj Bhavan. He met Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Fadnavis is said to have told the governor that the Uddhav government does not have a majority. Therefore, they should be ordered to prove their majority by conducting a floor test.
What can Uddhav do?
According to those who know the Constitution, Shiv Sena is in deep trouble at this time. Their 39 MLAs are sitting in Assam broken. Proving majority will be a difficult task for Uddhav. If the governor asks to prove his majority, he can approach the court in whatever option is available to him. The Supreme Court had also ordered to maintain status quo till July 11. In the second step, he will issue a whip to his MLAs to vote in favor of the government. In such a situation, it will be difficult for the rebel MLAs to disconnect from the government. Their membership may be in jeopardy. Under the third step, he can leave the field even before this.

What is assembly math
Maharashtra has 288 seats. The majority figure is 145. After the elections held in 2019, Shiv Sena with 57 seats, NCP with 53 seats and Congress with 44 seats formed the government. Whereas despite winning 105 seats, BJP fell short of majority. Along with other parties and independent MLAs, there were 169 MLAs in the court of Uddhav government. But in the Rajya Sabha elections, the BJP with the support of 113 MLAs got 123 votes. The BJP got the support of 134 MLAs in the MLC elections. She managed to win all her five candidates. In contrast, Shiv Sena got only 52 votes despite its 55 MLAs and supporting Independent MLAs.
Uddhav decided to leave if floor test is done
Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik are in jail while one seat is vacant in the 288-member assembly. At present the effective number is 285. The majority requires the support of 143 members. BJP is already the largest party. BJP has 106 MLAs while NDA has 113 MLAs. Whereas 39 MLAs of Uddhav camp are going to rebel and join BJP. In such a situation, Uddhav’s departure in the floor test is certain.
