The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Sunday discussed the reasons for the debacle in the assembly elections and the strategy ahead. The CWC meeting, the top policy-making body of the Congress, chaired by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, was held at the party headquarters. Sources say that during this time there was a demand to make Rahul Gandhi the president again. During the meeting, Congress workers raised slogans outside AICC and demanded to bring back Rahul Gandhi.
Apart from Sonia Gandhi, former party president Rahul Gandhi, general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Mallikarjun Kharge, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and many other leaders attended the meeting. A day before the meeting, a section of the media had reported that the Gandhi family may offer to resign from party posts. However, Randeep Surjewala denied this news and termed it as false and mischievous.
Before the meeting, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar demanded that Rahul Gandhi be made the party president again. Gehlot said that in today’s time, Rahul Gandhi is the only leader of the country who is facing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with full strength. Sonia Gandhi has not been campaigning actively for some time now. Along with Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi has been a star campaigner of the Congress. Both of them play a role in important decisions of the party.
