In the Rajya Sabha elections in Maharashtra, the ruling Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance suffered a major setback and the BJP won three out of six seats in the state. After the elections on Friday, the political atmosphere remained hot for a long time and the results were declared on Saturday. On behalf of the BJP, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, former state ministers Anil Bonde and Dhananjay Mahadik won the Rajya Sabha elections. Seven candidates were in the fray for 6 seats here.
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, NCP leader Praful Patel and Congress’s Imran Pratapgarhi will also go to the Rajya Sabha. However, the contest for the sixth seat here was fierce in which former BJP MP Dhananjay Mahadik defeated Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Pawar. After winning three seats in the Rajya Sabha elections, Leader of Opposition and former CM Devendra Fadnavis said that elections are fought not only to fight but to win.
At the same time, in Haryana, the Congress suffered a setback when independent candidate Karthikeya Sharma registered a victory and the party’s general secretary Ajay Maken had to face defeat. Two seats in Haryana were won by Krishan Lal Panwar of the BJP and Karthikeya Sharma, an independent candidate with the support of the party.
Ajay Maken’s defeat: Returning officer RK Nandal told that BJP candidate Panwar got 36 votes, while Sharma’s account got 23 first preference votes and 6.6 votes were transferred from BJP, taking his total number of votes to 29.6. In this close contest, Maken got 29 votes but lost as there was no second preference vote.
On this victory, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar congratulated the candidates and said that it is a victory for the people and democracy of Haryana. At the same time, on the question of Kuldeep Bishnoi of Congress voting for Kartikeya Sharma, CM Khattar said that he voted while listening to his conscience. He said, “I can say that they must have voted after being influenced by the policies and achievements of the Modi government. He did not care what action the Congress would take…I congratulate him.”
News agency ANI quoted sources as saying that Kuldeep Bishnoi, who cross-voted in the Rajya Sabha elections in Haryana, will be removed from the membership of the CWC (Special Invitee) and will be suspended from the party. A letter will also be written to the Speaker for cancellation of membership from the Assembly.
