Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday (July 15) launched the Shivalik-class frigate frigate INS Doonagiri in Kolkata, West Bengal. After the launch of this warship in the Hooghly river of Kolkata, Rajnath Singh handed it over to the Indian Navy. The name Dunagiri belongs to a mountain located in Uttarakhand, this warship has been built by Garden Rich Shipbuilders and Engineers based in Kolkata. This warship is a new incarnation of the Navy’s old Doonagiri ASW frigate. The old Fregate was retired in 2010 after completing 33 years of service.
INS Doonagiri is the fourth warship of Project-17A, which was launched by the Union Defense Minister today. Let us tell you that this project will make 7 such Shivalik class frigate warship Navy. Four such warships are being built at Mazagon Dockyard in Mumbai and the remaining three at GRSE. Let us tell you that Mazagon Dockyard has already launched two warships of this class in the sea. Earlier in the month of June, the third warship of this class, Udayagiri, was launched.
Names placed on country’s mountain ranges
All these seven warships built for the Navy are named after different mountain ranges of the country. Like the Shivalik class warship, Dunagiri is also telling about an important identity of self-reliant India in the defense sector. 75 percent of the equipment, systems, equipment and weapons in this warship are all indigenous. All these warships have been designed by the Directorate of Naval Design of the Indian Navy.
Know what is the specialty of INS Dunagiri
1- It will keep its firepower in water, land and sky without any fault.
2- The target of the blow made with this is also accurate, no matter how far the target is, there is not a single inch difference in its strike.
3- This warship can go anywhere at a speed of 28 knots (measure of speed in water) carrying 7000 tons of cargo.
4- Its biggest feature is that it is a wonderful picture of self-reliant India.
5- 75 percent of the goods in this warship are indigenous
6-It has the ability to suppress any kind of enemy.
7-These are the follow-on to all the frigates of Project 17A including Dunagiri warships of Shivalik class (Project-17)
8- It has better stealth features, advanced weapon, sensors and platform management system than the previous ones.
This is the new avatar of the old Doonagiri ASW Fregate
The new frigate INS Doonagiri launched by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has been named after the 33 years old INS Doonagiri. In fact, it is a very old tradition of the Indian Navy that a new warship is named after a retired (de-commissioned) warship.
