Mumbai. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya admitted after the defeat against Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League that the target could have been achieved. He said that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana made the difference in the match. CSK defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 20 runs in the 30th match of IPL 2024.
Chasing the target of 207 runs of Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians team got six wickets in front of the sharp bowling of Mathisha Pathirana (four wickets for 28 runs) despite Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten inning of 105 runs with five sixes and 11 fours in 63 balls. But could score only 186 runs. Rohit made a partnership of 70 runs with Ishan Kishan (23) for the first wicket and 60 runs with Tilak Verma for the third wicket but could not lead Mumbai to victory.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (40 balls, 69 runs, five sixes, five fours) and Shivam Dubey (66 not out in 38 balls, two sixes, 10 fours), apart from scoring a half-century earlier, made a partnership of 90 runs for the third wicket, which helped Super Kings scored 206 runs for four wickets. In the end, Mahendra Singh Dhoni played an unbeaten inning of 20 runs with three sixes in four balls and took the team’s score beyond 200 runs.
Hardik Pandya said after the match, ‘Definitely the target could have been achieved but they bowled very well and Pathirana made the difference. He was very clever with his plans and used the long boundaries well.
Pandya said, ‘He has sensed it and he has a person (MS Dhoni) behind the wicket who tells what is working. The ball was coming with a little delay and they were successful in gaining the upper hand. Till Pathirana arrived we were moving well towards the target. (input language)
