Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s troubles have now been increased by the people of his own country. The Israeli people are angry at the government due to the continuous killing of Israeli hostages in Gaza. A huge anti-government rally was taken out in Tel Aviv, Israel on Saturday. Five people were injured, including one with minor injuries, when a car ran over protesters during the protest. Police have detained the driver for questioning. According to Israeli media, officials are also investigating the driver’s motive and involvement behind his actions.
Meanwhile Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi blamed “leftist leaders inside and outside the coalition” for ramming cars into protesters. Karhi tweeted in Hebrew that he should not drive into protesters. Do not attack police officers. Do not throw burning torches at the Prime Minister’s house. Opposition leader Yair Lapid condemned the incident and blamed the government led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for allegedly promoting violence and division.
Protests have been going on against the government for a week
Israel has been rocking the country’s largest anti-government protests since last week, demanding new elections and a hostage deal with Hamas, six months into the war.
Visuals going viral on social media showed thousands of protesters in Tel Aviv on Saturday. Police dispersed people gathered on Arlozorov Street and Bloch Street as many of them sat down on the road, blocking traffic. While dispersing the demonstration, an elderly man was crushed by a police horse.
